Our Location

The Setting

Our psychology training programs are funded and sponsored by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and we operate on the Harbor-UCLA Medical Center campus in a setting that is rich in the traditions of public service, education, and research.

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is a publicly funded teaching hospital owned and operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services. It is located in Torrance, California — on the ancestral and unceded territories of the Tongva peoples, which covers approximately 21 square miles in south western Los Angeles County, bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west.

As a tertiary medical center and Level I trauma center, Harbor-UCLA serves a population of over 2 million culturally and ethnically diverse people from economically disadvantaged and underserved backgrounds. Harbor-UCLA Medical Center provides emergency and trauma care, a full spectrum of medical and surgical inpatient services, and ambulatory primary and specialty care. All ambulatory mental health services at Harbor-UCLA are funded and operated by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health.

AFFILIATED INSTITUTIONS

Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is affiliated with the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Its campus is home also to the Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation  (formerly the Los Angeles Biomedical Institute). Through these affiliations, Harbor-UCLA faculty have the opportunity to secure extramural funding and conduct research in various areas.

AFFILIATED PROGRAMS

Training programs affiliated with the Psychology Training Program include a social work internship training program funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health and a psychiatry residency program funded by the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services which has been in place since 1960.
